Second Joint meeting Read it! Swap it!

23 August 2009, by Diana Varbanescu

As we all thoroughly enjoyed our second joint meeting, I think it’ll be a good thing to repeat the experience next year. Here’s the letter I got from Mark, the other reading group’s organiser:

Dear Diana,

My colleagues and myself thought it was really good to meet with (both) your colleagues and (again) with you and we wanted to say thank you for organizing for this to happen.

We thought the contribution of your members was brilliant and it helped to make the experience - for us - a particular treat for the summer as well as memorable and so we would ask that you pass on our sincere thanks to them as well.

After you all left, we briefly discussed the idea of repeating the experience, (next year?). We’d need to look at a few things (e.g. timekeeping/venue etc.) but we wondered how your colleagues & you might feel about this?

We appreciate you probably would want to discuss with all the others so assume you will let us know once you have had your next meeting.

In the mean time if there is ever a need for help or to bounce ideas off us about running a Reading Group please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Many thanks again,

Mark

So, what do you all think?

  • I found the event very well run and structured. It was clear that the organisers have put a lot of effort into it, for which they deserve a special acknowledgement.
The idea of the “questions and answers” game was engaging and fun, whilst retaining its informative aspect.
I found the answers/ comments to be rich, personal and thought provoking.
This is clearly an event of a more “serious” kind, well suited for those who appreciate a more formal setting and a “deeper” meaning to the interaction.
